In the north of Vietnam, on the border with China is Ban Gioc -Detian Falls for the chienese- one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world. Not so visited by foreigners who usually focus their attention to Halong Bay and Sapa when coming to the north of the country.
Also called Ba Be Lakes, this places has a very nice mix of water, mountains, caves and pretty homestays with beautiful views to the lake and rice fields. The lake is visited in a confortable boat trip but there are other options. The big caves are far less crowded than the ones in Halong Bay.
One of the least explored provinces in Vietnam, so little tourism that you will meet the same travelers over and over from village to village from mountain to mountain.
One of the few places in Vietnam where you can do trekking, either to the highest mountain in Vietnam: Fansipan or to the minority tribes villages such as Hmong, Zai and Dao, famous for their pretty and peculiar clothing, on a trekking through the rice terrace they build along the valley.
